The world prefers Google. When it comes to online search, nothing rivals the competence and credibility of Google. It is the defining search engine. While other search engines have their existence, Google simply outshines them. So when the new search algorithm was introduced, the Google Panda, the internet was bound to face transition in the World Wide Web. With an all new algorithm that preferred original content with lesser advertisements, the effects were two-sided. The article highlights the important changes in the search algorithm that further enhanced the changes in result finding process and webpage ranking on a search list.
Google Panda was first released in February 2011, enabling the existence of artificial intelligence that could different pages on criteria such as credibility, speed, design, links provided and links leading to home page. Having developed a program that could classify and differentiate pages and websites on such guidelines acting as basis of differentiation, the Google Panda’s initial versions were created.
This was done keeping in check the possibility of infringement and plagiarism practiced on the internet. Google Panda is successfully able to differentiate such pages and rank the ‘duplicate pages’ lowly when compared to web-pages and sites sporting original content, less advertisements and increased credibility and market image.
This however, had its own backdrops and shortcomings:
While change is the only constant philosophically put, the changes made in the Google Panda led to a drastic change. This was due to the new algorithm employed in the Google Panda. This lead to up-shifts and downslides in the rank of pages in a search result. Having caused that, certain web-pages lost out in the ranking process and had to make revisions and minor changes to suit Panda’s ranking process. This also led to ‘duplicate pages’ to be ranked above sometimes when compared to the plagiarized sites.
In order to negate the effect of this phenomenon to extend, Google had to issue a list of 23 points stating how a website becomes acceptable to Google’s policies and search criteria.
Google Panda like many of its fellow software and applications and processing units has been subjected to updates and improvised versions where the core object is of improving search and providing improved and better content.

While minor changes and tweaks have continued to exist, Google Panda has been succeeded by the Google Penguin and the Google Hummingbird as the next level of search algorithms and software. Google Panda was most noted for bringing a major change in search criteria and providing the user with a better quality of content and lesser chances of coming across content that has been copied or infringed. The change in the trend of Google’s policy and motives can be credited to the Panda, as it silently chews on at bamboo shoots!
